Using Free and Open Source software, with custom configurations, I have created
a fax server system that is ideal for businesses and organizations.
This system is based on Debian GNU/Linux,
Samba, the Apache
webserver, a webmail client, and many of
the GNU utilities.
Features:
- Integrates easily into your existing Linux, Mac, or Windows based network to
use your existing services as much as possible. This includes using Windows domain
attributes for creating fax jobs and controlling user access, and using your current email
system to communicate job status and related messages your users.
- Extendable to provide more than just fax services. If you don't already have existing
network resources, the fax server can also serve as an internal email system, internal documentation
and information web server, control shared printers, etc. Also, the entire system is based on
Free and Open Source software, so it can be modified to fit your particular needs.
- Low overhead requirements make deploying the fax server extremely inexpensive.
Assuming you don't already have a computer to run it on, suitable equipment including modem(s)
can be purchased from many vendors for under $300 toal. How low are the requirements? One
office I set a system up for is running it off a Pentium 200/mmx that has 64mb of ram,
a 6gb disk drive, and 2 modems (one dedicated to sending, one to receiving). This particular
system supports 20 users and sent and recived over 25,000 faxes from Feb. 12 2005 to Feb. 17 2006
with no performance issues.
Please feel free to contact me for more information.
